The Challenge
A major retail e-commerce platform experienced critical failures during Black Friday and holiday seasons. The monolithic architecture couldn't handle traffic spikes, resulting in site crashes, lost sales, and poor customer experience. The platform was losing millions in revenue during peak periods and couldn't support international expansion due to scalability limitations.
The Solution
We migrated the entire e-commerce platform to a microservices architecture with auto-scaling capabilities. The solution includes separate services for product catalog, inventory, cart, payment, order processing, and recommendation engine. We implemented event-driven architecture with message queues, implemented caching strategies with Redis, and built a CDN infrastructure for global content delivery. The new system can automatically scale from 10 to 1000+ instances based on traffic.
